- Summer in Hong Kong is pretty hot and wet. It has been raining for a few days already, showers in the morning. I don’t really mind the hot weather, it’s the humidity that’s really killing me. Everything is so wet and sticky. Kinda disgusting. When I go out at night, it kind of smells like something is rotting away where I live because of all the vegetation. The smell is pretty strong.
- :Friendster: pops into my mailbox every now and then. Very occasionally I get messages and pending request. Last night as I was trying to go through the site, I found that the site isn’t very mac friendly. I use :Safari: for most of my browsing. :Friendster:’s site isn’t fully compatible with :Safari:, meaning they’re not totally standard compliant. I can view the site without any problems, but it seems that I cannot issue commands. I wasn’t able to approve pendiing requests, delete messages from the inbox etc… I logged in with :Firefox: and I was able to approve my pending request, but I still wasn’t able to delete messages from my inbox. Maybe some kind of bug in their system?
- I was after some egg tarts this morning. One of Hong Kong’s most famous egg tart shop is closing doors because they can’t afford to pay the rent increase the landlord imposed on them. Chris Pattern went there when he was the governor, and said they were the best egg tarts in Hong Kong. It is only normal that Hong Kong residents line up to buy them before they’re gone. Since I’m on holiday, I thought might to get some since I have the time. I got there in the morning thinking there would be less people lining up and boy was I wrong. When I got there, there were close to 100 people lining up waiting for those tarts. The line extended half way up the street, and it wasn’t moving. The tarts were probably all sold out and people were waiting for some fresh ones. It’s hot and humid out on the street with buses passing by blowing exhaust in your face. The tarts are good, but it’s not that good. At least definitely not good enough to worth me waiting in the hostile environment. Why is it that Hong Kong people like to line up for things so much? The crowd seems to appear wherever there’s line. Wherever there’s a crowd, there’s going to be a much bigger crowd coming. People just like to have massive gatherings…
