I’m starting to feel doing clinical attachments when you’re on holiday is kind of pointless. What do you actually hope to achieve when you’re attachment to a unit for 5 days? You get to know what they do, but that’s what you do when you’re a student. You attach to different units while you’re studying to get a feel for every specialty. You try to meet the people there, but you’re only there for 5 days, so you’ll be starting to know the people there when you leave. You hardly get to do any bonding. You try to get to know the bosses. You get introduced to the boss for 30 seconds. They’ll talk to you for another 10 seconds, the boss then has to move on to do other stuff… The only impression he’ll have of you is that 1 minute. He’ll probably forget about you the next day. If he doesn’t the next day, I’m sure he’ll by the end of the month. So what’s the point. The only way to leave an impression is if you actually worked for them for 3 months. I don’t even have an orthopaedic rotation, how am I suppose to leave an impression? I starting to feel the whole idea of clinical attachment’s kind of stupid. I’m thinking I’d rather have holiday instead of doing an attachment…
