Today’s been a pretty chill day. I was on call yesterday, for most of the day, I was in my bed sleeping. Yesterday was odd because there was hardly any admissions. I think during the whole day, we had little more than 10 patients coming in. I was pretty chill during the day spending most of the time in bed. Didn’t get much sleep Saturday, so I was trying to get as much sleep in as possible during work the whole day. I found this room in the office where I can watch TV after dinner. So when I wasn’t working, I was watching TV. I did manage to watch most of “the world is not enough” last night. I’ve probably watched the damn movie like 10 times already, and I think they must have played it at least 20 times. It was actually getting boring. One good thing I did get out of watching TV all night is learning that a new season of Monk, Without a trace, CSI NY is airing on TV in Hong Kong.

Today was even better. Normally during our post-call day, we have to go down to OPD to see Obs or Gyn cases. Anyway, no OPD for me today, so I managed to get off work a little bit earlier. Having this little bit of extra time is pretty damn nice. I had time to go home to get changed, and then head out for a coffee, and if I’m fast enough, I could still make high tea. I spent the time doing some window shopping and coffee. I’ve had a little to many coffee-to-go it feels nice being able to just sit down and chill. Hopefully, I’m going to be able to do more of this in the future… Post-call half day off!

Weather in Hong Kong has been pretty crap the last few weeks. It’s pretty much been raining all the way. Almost every day. There were a few days of extreme raining causing flooding and trees falling. Anyway, with all this rain a lot of the roads in Hong Kong has been damaged. There’s a lot of new pot holes on the road every where. There’s a lot of gravel from the pot hot, so everyone has to slow down. There’s so many pot holes that I wonder when will they be able to fix them all? I’ve seen a few of them being repaired, but they really need to re-pave the road before it’s good again.

Was out for drinks on Friday night. It was alright except I was pretty tired going to work the first day. Anyway, some cops came in to bust the place. They said the place didn’t have a liquor license, and hence the whole saga went on for around 30 minutes. It wasn’t fun at all. Anyway, at the end of the night, they left without doing anything. I was wondering what all the fuss was about. If they didn’t have a license, how come they just left the place?

Watched Batman yesterday, it was pretty damn good. I enjoyed the whole thing. I thought it was a little short though. I wanted more, but then the movie was already 150 minutes? Anyway, I really like how the whole cave and the suit was made. I don’t think any of the other Batman movies mentioned how he became Batman except mention about his parents. The car was pretty cool too. It was a little too different from all the other Batman cars though. Anyway, definitely worth the watch. I think I might get the DVD when it comes out.

Holiday’s been great! I haven’t had such a great Sunday for a long time. I’m watching TV right now. A Beautiful Life is on at the moment. It’s a great movie. But I guess when I watch it, I noticed different things now. I would look at all the signs of Schizophrenia, and the way they treated schizophrenia. There’s one thing that I don’t quite understand. I thought they were giving Nash ECT. But then when I watch closer they didn’t actually give him ECT. All I saw was them putting Nash under restrain and then injecting some insulin. I didn’t see any electrodes or something that would transmit electricity. Anyway. he pretty much started convulsing after the insulin shot. I thought that was kind of weird, I’m not sure, maybe that’s how they treated patients back then. I really like the part when he tries to beat the hallucinations.

I might be getting a facial this week. It sounds kinda funny. I can’t believe I’m going to get a facial, it feels weird… But hey maybe I’ll feel better afterwards…

There's been pretty crazy raids going on. I've seen a raid in one city, I got killed a few times, but then by the time I ran to the next city, I found out that there's another raid going on there as well... So basically, some pretty hardcore raids going on. Someone took some pictures of a raid one of the alliance strongholds "IronForge".... But then this time they asked me about confidentiality and they asked some pretty difficult questions like when will the patient's data be destroyed etc...

No, I’m not going to stop writing in here… It’s just hopefully, it’ll be the end of my days at university. We’ve finally finished all our exams. It’s finally over now. The last exam was last Friday’s Medicine OSCE. To be honest, I’m still not feeling as happy as I should be. The official results are still not out yet. Luckily, I didn’t need any pull-up viva. But the problem is that still doesn’t mean I’m in the clear. I still don’t know if I’m one of those who performed so bad that I didn’t deserve a pull-up viva. Well, I don’t think I’m that bad. I mean even if I did bad, I still should be a viva. But these are things that you never know. Hopefully I’m going to be OK, but until the official result are out, I’m still going to live in fear…

After the Medicine OSCE preliminary results were released, I went hotpot with some friends outside my medicine circle. It was pretty cool. We went to Ling’s for the hotpot. Ate a lot and had a little bit of beer. Afterwards, we all met up at Shelter for drinks together with people from medicine. It was pretty cool. We had two bottles of vodka plus we had a few shots. I’m seriously going to stop drinking beer before going drinking because it totally fucks me up. Every time I have beer before I go drink, I puke after drinking, and I get really sleepy. So you can tell what happened after 3 hours at Shelter. I got really sleepy and puked when I got downstairs… Sorry I had to end the night like that… But hey I had fun, and I hope the others did too.

I’ve started playing World of Warcraft again. It’s pretty cool. I’ve played for a few days, and it’s getting crazier by the day. Since the game’s been going on for so many months already. There’s actually quite a few people who has already reached level 60 (which is the top level). So these people started going out hunting for the other race. We call these “raids”. Basically it’s a bunch of high level players going deep into enemy territory and killing everything in their path. There’s been pretty crazy raids going on. I’ve seen a raid in one city, I got killed a few times, but then by the time I ran to the next city, I found out that there’s another raid going on there as well… So basically, some pretty hardcore raids going on. Someone took some pictures of a raid one of the alliance strongholds “IronForge”. The pictures speak for themselves. Check them out here.

Just a short recap on Medicine OSCE, for the general station, I had KYL and GL. KYL totally killed me. This is probably the worst station for me. I probably failed this station. I was so freaked out that I wasn’t able to answer most of his question. CVS I had KL and some GI doctor. I’m not sure what his name was. I was able to pick up a TR and mechanical aortic valve. The patient was probably a case of Marfan because KL showed me the patient’s pair of hands, and the fingers looked long to me. Anyway, this station, I think I was OK. ECG was a case of pericardial effusion, and anterior MI. Not much problem there. Respiratory, I had a lady with decrease chest movement bilaterally, and also coarse crepitation over the left lower lobe. I suspect she has bronchiectasis because she has a sputum bottle next to her. Imaging was alright. We got a pneumothorax and also a SAH. Abdomen, I got a patient with a transplanted kidney, who’s on CAPD? He also has deafness, and it runs in the family. I was asked to give a diagnosis, but I wasn’t able to give one. Afterwards, I think it might be Alport’s Syndrome? Not sure. For CNS, I got a young man with cerebellar signs. I don’t think he is the Wilson’s case, but anyway. He also had some slurring of speech. They asked me what word I would use to describe the slurring. I wouldn’t think of one. They say the word would pretty much give the diagnosis? But anyway, wasn’t able to give the answer. Ethics was on RCT again. But then this time they asked me about confidentiality and they asked some pretty difficult questions like when will the patient’s data be destroyed etc… Totally unfair… Anyway, that’s what happened in the Medicine OSCE. I think I only did poorly in one station. Hopefully the other stations are OK.

Anyway, I’m going to have to wait for 10 more days before the results are released… It’s going to be a long wait…

I finally have time for more random things. It seems like life has returned, and I’m not stuck in the library anymore. I can finally go out and enjoy the finer things in life. Been drinking, chilling and gaming since the end of pediatrics. I still don’t know whether I’ve passed pediatrics or not, but I’m counting it as a pass anyway. No point thinking about it all the time, and worrying to death about it. I honestly don’t think I did that bad after all. I mean for the cardiac station, I heard the VSD, I forgot to feel for a heave etc, but at the end, I was rushed, I did remember to feel for a thrill. So at least I am able to grade the murmur. That must have showed that I know what I’m doing (well, to be honest, I didn’t). But anyway, hopefully it’s OK. I got to stop thinking about it.

World of Warcraft has been pretty good. I’ve had a lot of time to play with it. Especially with no one at home, everyone gone, I had nothing to do during the day, so I played quite a bit. That was nice, though the fact that I haven’t been playing for a really long time meant that I didn’t know what I was doing for a while. I was getting tips from people a few levels lower than my character. I was so clumsy, and getting killed all the time. Feels good to be playing again. I’m going to stop for the next week, just so that I’ll be preparing for my medicine short case. It happens that a lot of people I know are on the same server, so it’ll be loads of fun playing with them. Only problem is I need to catch up with the leveling… They’re all much higher level than I am.

The car’s still sitting downstairs waiting to be brought to the garage. Come to think about it, it’s probably the generator which died. If it was the battery, then the generator would keep the car running once it’s started, and the car shouldn’t die in the middle of the road. In that case, fixing it might be more complicated than I initially thought. Might take a few days, which means I will have no car for the rest of the week. The good news is my grandparents should be out of town again, so there should be extra cars and driver around. I should still manage to travel around without any fuss. My parents have finally talked about getting a new car. It’s about time! During lunch yesterday, my father talked about getting a new car. I told him what I had in mind, an Audi A4 Avant. He didn’t really like that idea. He wants a small car which has a low fuel consumption. Anyway, I’m checking the fuel consumption of the car right now, and it’s actually pretty good (11.2L/100km). Anyway, I still have to compare that with the other cars. But I’m going to have to reconsider which car to get. He wants a BMW 318, but then I really don’t like it. If it’s going to be a 318, then I’d rather get a Mini Cooper S. Anyway, I’ll see how it goes… If you have any suggestions, let me know!

A fellow blogger in the class IMed me today. Asked about moving from Blogger to your own server. Anyway, we talked for a while, told him about all the different options, and all the different blogging platforms there is. It’s cool how there’s quite a few of bloggers in our class. I think at least 10% of our class currently has a blog. I joked around that we should have a blogger’s group or something like that. It would be nice to have one, but I think most blogger’s would prefer to be remain anonymous. Not a problem with me already. But anyway, if you’re thinking about moving away from Blogger let me know. I might be able to give you a few pointers on how to setup your own blog. I might write about this in my wiki later. I’ll make sure I let you guys now about it when I do write it up.

[Update] I’ve just written it up. Well, sort of. Let me know if I’m missing anything or you want to know more… Here’s the link.

I haven't been to the movies for really really long, and I really need to watch something.... I'm not sure why, but I seem to enjoy every movie Will Smith was in. Bad Boyz, Bad Boyz II etc. a whole bunch of them.... I haven't been to the gym for so long. I think it must have been like 3-4 months.

I haven’t had such a good day for a long time. Yesterday, I went to watch Hitch. I haven’t been to the movies for really really long, and I really need to watch something. Hitch was really good. As always Will Smith is super smooth with everything. I’m not sure why, but I seem to enjoy every movie Will Smith was in. Bad Boyz, Bad Boyz II etc. a whole bunch of them. The whole story was just hilarious. There were so many good parts that I can’t even count them. Kevin James was really good too. Everything about him was so funny/cute. The best part was when he finally got the courage to kiss Allergra Cole. It was so funny. Actually he looked really stupid when he was going to kiss her. Anyway. I really recommend it.

Today I still went to the library to do a little bit of studying. I thought about surgery OSCE. Went through all the stations in my head. Thought about what I was going to said, trying to get ready for it. After library. I went to the gym for a light workout. I haven’t been to the gym for so long. I think it must have been like 3-4 months. I think the last time I went was in early Psychiatry. I still had a bit of time then, and I wasn’t so stressed. Since then I’ve been too busy/stressed to go to the gym. Finally went today, and I feel great. Even though it was a really light one, it felt really refreshing. I think I’m going to try to head to the gym regularly again. I really need to get fit before heading into the workforce.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend!

Today’s the first day after written exams and I’m sitting at home doing nothing. I should really be going out and having fun, but then I’m sick. This sucks. I was pretty sick yesterday, so sick that I wasn’t able to do anything. I’ve been staying at home since lunch yesterday and staying in bed. I’m definitely going out today. I’m going to get my hair cut today. And then maybe get a CD… I suddenly have all this time and I’m not quite sure what to do with myself haha… I’m probably going to activate my World of Warcraft account again so that I can do some battling with my friends… Apparently some of my friends have started a new character and are already up to level 42 again… Damn… They’re leveling fast haha… I’ve gotta catch up haha… Anyway, what are you going to do with all this time? haha…

After studying last night, I was treated to some sake in causeway bay. Haven’t had a drink for a while now, and it felt really good. Not only was going out good, the drinks calmed my nerves a bit too. I was only out for half an hour, but within that short time, I had a few shots (5/6) of sake. Pretty nice… Now exams all the way!

When I get a new phone, I definitely need one with a better camera. My current camera phone sucks. Photos are really grainy!

I’m really enjoying myself here in the library today! I’m more efficient than ever. Reading much faster than I was yesterday. All this because of Starbucks. For some people, coffee makes them nervous and jittery, plus they get palpitation. Well, it seems that I’m only getting all the good effects from coffee. I feel happier, more relaxed than I use to in the library. All that stress about exams just flew out the window, and I’m really concentrating on what I’m doing. All this because I have a cup of coffee in my hand.

Ok, I just came back from dinner at Starbucks. Food was a lot better, I had a bagel, a croissant and a triple grande 2% extra hot latte (again!) and it felt great. I have a feeling that the food makes me feel better as well. Instead of going for a BBQ pork rice, I’m having something lighter. So I don’t get that sugar surge (from the CHO), hence I don’t burn and crash half an hour later. Well, plus the coffee’s probably preventing me from crashing, so my work cycle is prolonged. I’m getting much more work done before I crash hours later. I really wish Starbucks was here earlier.

Anyway, this shop closes after 8pm. It’s a little early. I wish it stays open a little longer, so I can grab a late coffee before it closes. I’ve just had a coffee, and I really don’t think I should have another one so soon. I might have to change my cycle a little bit, maybe eat a little earlier say 1830, have a coffee, and then at 2000, I’ll come out and grab another coffee, just to hold on to for a while. The last coffee will easily last till 2300, by then I’ll probably be ending my day soon. All is good now! Exams here I come!

My usual triple grande 2% extra hot latte would set me back HKD31 normally, but here in the HKU campus, it only set me back HKD21.... There were no seats inside starbucks, but that isn't a problem since I can take my coffee inside the library into the Student Learning Centre where I'm allowed to drink and eat.... [Update] It turns out that they were handing out free coffee for the first two hours of business, which explains why there was such a long line waiting coffee.

Finally, there’s decent coffee on campus. Starbucks finally opened today. I got to school around 2pm because I had to take Lucky to see his vet in the morning. When I got to school, there was a really long line for starbucks. There were at least 50 people lining up around that time probably because it was lunch time, and it is NEW. So people gotta try it out. Anyway, I was really disappointed because I wasn’t going to wait around for half an hour just to get coffee. Initially I was planning to grab something for lunch there, but then after seeing the line, I went back to have the shitty food at school. After lunch which was maybe 15 minutes later, the line was gone, and I had to get my fix today. It was good. They had no problem getting my order (though they didn’t get the extra hot bit). The best thing is there’s a discount for us! My usual triple grande 2% extra hot latte would set me back HKD31 normally, but here in the HKU campus, it only set me back HKD21. It’s a nice thing since I’m probably going to have more coffee now, which translate to a substantial 30% off my expenses! This is great! There were no seats inside starbucks, but that isn’t a problem since I can take my coffee inside the library into the Student Learning Centre where I’m allowed to drink and eat. So here I am inside the library drinking my coffee and doing a bit of studying! They really should have had a Starbucks here long ago. It would have been so nice if I was doing this all these years in HKU. Anyway, time to do some hardcore studying with my coffee now! Dinner’s going to be nice! Coffee again!

[Update] It turns out that they were handing out free coffee for the first two hours of business, which explains why there was such a long line waiting coffee. I didn’t manage to get a free coffee, but it’s still sweet
